Hand-crafted end-grain chopping boards made from a rotating mix of native timbers and walnut, shaped by what I’m able to source.

This release is made from Swamp Kauri, rich with visible medullary rays that create natural variation in texture and light.

Each board is made slowly, block by block, with the grain oriented vertically for strength, longevity, and knife protection. End-grain surfaces allow knives to slip between fibres rather than cutting across them, keeping blades sharper for longer and helping the board age well with daily use.

No two boards are ever the same — size, timber mix, and pattern vary with each release.

Why end-grain?

  • Gentler on knives than face-grain boards

  • Naturally durable and long-wearing

  • Designed for daily, heavy use

  • Can be resurfaced over time to extend lifespan

What to expect

  • Each board is one-off

  • Sizes and proportions vary between releases

  • Timber combinations change depending on availability

  • Made using native timbers and walnut, selected for strength and contrast

I work with what I can responsibly source — particularly with native timber — which means each board reflects the materials available at that moment in time. This keeps the work incredibly unique.

Good to know

  • Suitable for everyday chopping and prep

  • Also works beautifully as a serving or presentation board

  • Finished with food-safe beeswax

End Grain boards are durable, the orientation of the fibres mean the timber is more resistant to wear and tear. The upright fibres absorb the impact of knives which helps to preserve the surface of the board, and keep your knives sharper for longer. End grain also has a better resistance to moisture compared to long grain boards.

End grain refers to the exposed ends of wood fibers in a piece of timber. When a tree is cut into boards or planks, the end grain is the surface that is perpendicular to the growth rings of the tree. This surface shows the natural pattern of the wood fibers and can have a distinctive appearance compared to the long grain of the wood.

End Grain Chopping Boards have been finished using the Spoon Oil, a mix of coconut oil, mineral oil, beeswax, and vitamin E, then with a second layer of beeswax.

To care for your end grain cutting board wash in warm soapy water, and please do not put your end grain board in the dishwasher. To maintain your board do not leave soaking in water, keep out of direct sunlight, and if you would like to refresh your finish overtime you can use a beeswax or a coconut oil.
