Collection: Inscribed Hemisphere Bowls
In this presentation, I have attempted to introduce a spherical slice into a cuboid form. In geometry, this is referred to as 'inscribed', where a portion of a sphere is perfectly integrated within a cuboid structure.
This concept is explored through a series of cuboid shapes, with bowls carved into both end grain and long grain—a study of how these forms interact across different timber orientations. It was a technical challenge I set for myself, pushing the precision of hand-shaping these pieces to see just how perfectly I could bring these geometric shapes to life. At the same time, it's a celebration of the timber itself—pieces I’ve held onto for years, showcasing their natural grain patterns. These bowls offer a unique glimpse inside the tree, where the grain flows beautifully around these solid, sculpted forms.
