The Walnut End Grain Board, a solid, weighty block designed to last a lifetime. Made from 25 individually joined end-grain walnut segments in a clean 5×5 formation, this board is as functional as it is enduring.

This board features circular Walnut plugs—ranging from 28mm to 45mm in diameter—used to reinforce natural cracks in the wood. These inserts are a structural and aesthetic choice, celebrating the material’s natural movement and ensuring long-term durability.

End grain construction is gentle on knives, self-healing over time, and built to withstand heavy daily use. Ideal for serious cooking and display-worthy in any kitchen.

Length: 233mm
Width: 228mm
Height: 65mm

Handmade in Auckland, New Zealand by Courtney Petley

End Grain boards are durable, the orientation of the fibres mean the timber is more resistant to wear and tear. The upright fibres absorb the impact of knives which helps to preserve the surface of the board, and keep your knives sharper for longer. End grain also has a better resistance to moisture compared to long grain boards.

End grain refers to the exposed ends of wood fibers in a piece of timber. When a tree is cut into boards or planks, the end grain is the surface that is perpendicular to the growth rings of the tree. This surface shows the natural pattern of the wood fibers and can have a distinctive appearance compared to the long grain of the wood.

End Grain Chopping Boards have been finished using the Spoon Oil, a mix of coconut oil, mineral oil, beeswax, and vitamin E, then with a second layer of beeswax.

To care for your end grain cutting board wash in warm soapy water, and please do not put your end grain board in the dishwasher. To maintain your board do not leave soaking in water, keep out of direct sunlight, and if you would like to refresh your finish overtime you can use a beeswax or a coconut oil.
